FENLAND FISHERIES REPORT BY MIKE HAWES August 2010
Firstly let me apologise to those anglers who filled in catch reports over the last couple of weeks & are expecting to see them in this piece. I don’t know how but some idiot managed to loose them probably yours truly but I will try to remember the catches as we go.
Darren Skyrme dusted his tackle down & fished for the first time in 12 months banking 6 fish including mirrors of 27lb &38lb8oz from peg 17.
Ian Davenport had 6 fish including 4 twenties the best of which went 28lb4oz & 26lb10oz from peg 2. Dave ford fished peg 5 taking 2 fish of 21lb & just over 30lb. Matt Rand done 24 hour session for 2 carp to 27lb from peg15.
Daniel George fished peg 18 & banked if memory serves me right 8 fish to 28lb during a 48 hour session.
Gary Harmer & his mates took 6 fish to upper twenties.
Lee Elliott fished his favourite peg 1 netting 7 carp to 26lb.
Steve Gordon banked carp of 28lb12oz, 28lb & 16lb as well as 5 catfish to 28lb on halibuts.
Chris Spencer & his party of 5 fished for 48hours taking a total of 8 fish between them, with Dave Chambers banking the biggest at 33lb6oz. Preston boys Steve Haddon & Matt Hunt done 48hours Steve had 2 fish at 21lb &26lb & Matt just the one of 25lb10oz.
Mick Hillman came down from the black country to bag a nice mirror of 31lb8oz & Jamie Purrel had fish of 21lb & 27lb. Lots of other fish caught but these are the best of the bunch ( I THINK) & its nice too see a few of the bigger fish showing again .
On Vermuyden lake Wayne Mackie, Callum Mackie & Lenny Issacs took 23 fish in a single night with the largest 17lb.
Chris Nixon took 4 fish to 23lb. Andy Southby fished a day session to bag 2 fish of 18lb ,1of 16 & 1 at 21lb.
Young Jamie Brown who is just 6 years of age banked 10 fish to 16lb 8oz all on method feeder . Now young Jamie reckons he caught the fish all on his own without his dads help but I have my suspicions about that one .
Well done Jamie & well done Dad. That’s another budding Carper well & truly hooked.
Again many more fish caught but too many to mention.
Mark Hardy A.K.A The Crimper fished on the Pingles syndicate & banked a leather at 23lb 80z plus a common of 21lb. No other reports from this water at present.

Walk on Water ??
by Gary Spencer on Oct.15, 2009, under Vermuyden lake
For the Fenland Fisheries Carp angling tutorial, held in late September, the bait maestro, Steve Whitby of Cambridge Carp Bait, kindly rolled and donated a heap of bait for the youngsters to use.
After showing the lads how to use there free bait, he then proceeded to set up his old float fishing rod complete with a float, Bob Nudd style. He then sat himself on a chair, put a bit of red berry boilie on the hook and pronounced he was going to catch a carp!! . I nearly wet myself!! nobody had caught a carp all morning.
Five minutes later “TheCarpCatcher” had one on. The four pound line held and the fish was landed, the lads were well impressed, can he walk on water? one of them asked, probably not, but it was the next best thing.
