9 year oldLuke Boughen visited Abbey Lake recently with his father, Ches of Chez bait and tackle Wisbech and Ches’s mate Mike . Between them they had 12 carp including several at 20 plus. Cool hand Luke who was celebrating his 9th birthday was very quick to point out that ” HE CAUGHT THE BIGGEST ” and indeed he did, and all by himself too ! nice one Luke and see you soon

Fenland fisheries report mid august

Its been a cracking couple of weeks on willow since my last report with over 40 fish being banked, including 11 over 30lb & 2 over 40lb. The much sought after Space Hopper was out at an all time high of 42lb 7oz. This is only the third capture of the biggie this year; unfortunately I don’t have the anglers name or any pics at present but maybe in time for my next report.

Mark Sykes banked the other big fish (Frisbee) at 40lb 1oz along with other fish of 21lb, 23lb, 24lb & 27lb. Mark took all his fish on Cambridge Carp Baits Red Berry boilie during a 2 night stay in peg 19.

Darren Jackson fished alongside Mark in peg 20 to take fish of 13lb, 32lb & 36lb 9oz also on theBerry.

Paul Fitzjohn from Sheltons Tackle took 4 fish between 18lb & 27lb whilst field testing the new Ghost boilie from Cambridge Carp Bait. Also on the ghost Wayne Irving banked a small Mirror plus a 33lb common from peg 7.

John Pryke fished peg 14 to take 4 fish 3of which beat his previous PB. John fished C.C B Goldfish boilies & banked fish of 22lb, 29lb14oz, 30lb & 38lb 11oz.

Regular visitor Daniel George took 3 high doubles plus fish of 28lb & 37lb from peg 6 over a 48 hour period.

Young Joel Scrivener has been waiting a few years to fishWillow& now he is over 18 he wants to set up house down here.

Joel certainly had a good result on his first session, fishing peg 9 he banked mirrors of 33lb & 34lb.

Martin Butler & his dad Clive fished a 48 hour session, Martin took 4 fish 2 high doubles a 22 & a 25 whilst Clive banked fish of 17lb & 38lb.

TheLawrencebrothers did 3 nights & after struggling initially Mark finished with 3 low twenties Doug bagged himself a 23lb12oz grass carp & John took 3 doubles plus a 36lb mirror. Finally Graham fromYorkshirefished peg 20 to take a nice 26lb Mirror.

On Vermuyden Simon McColl banked 5 fish to 18lb. Matt Richardson took 5fish between 12lb & 18lb.

Aaron had 6 fish to 16lb. Paul took 4 fish to 15lb & Laurie 5 fish to 13lb. Young John Whitworth fished a 24 hour session to take 4 doubles to 19lb 8oz. Lots of other fish caught but just too many to report on this lake.

We will be starting work early September to join Vermuyden lake & coppice lake which means Vermuyden may suffer a little from low water levels. Our plan is to remove all the fish from coppice by draining & netting then taking out part of the separating bank. This will increase the area of Vermuyden to around3 acres& give the existing fish more room to pack on a bit of weight. Our intention is also to stock around 20 fish between 20 & 30lb from our growing lakes, this should take place around late October.

At Abbey lake the water level is still low so not much happening. TheWatfordboys did put in a weekend with Abbs banking the only fish at 23lb & Andy fromNorwichtook a 21lb Common.

Tour de France !!

David Cage from Bedfordshire has been on a Tour de France recently and has been catching absolutely loads of Carp. Starting of on Etoile Lake he bagged two high Thirties amongst others on the Red berry when nobody else was catching anything ! the owner was well impressed and in fact rang up CCB and ordered a few kilos, thanks David. He then moved onto Rushes Lake and bagged 59 fish in a week up to 35lb plus again on the berry and again far more than all the other anglers on the Lake. Next stop, a new Lake were he caught another 18 fish up to 47lb, mostly on Red Berry but he did catch the 47 on a Goldfish pop up. Nice going mate

First time out on the Peaches !!!

Dennis Brooker caught 3 stunning looking fish on his first time out using CCB Peaches and Cream boilies including the two pictured. Dennis caught 2 twenties and one of 18lb and also suffered a few hook pulls while fishing a heavily weeded swim at a un-disclosed venue. Go get some more fella !!!!

Andrew Southby caught this personnel best Mirror on a recent overnight session on Willow Lake. Andrew found a nice little gravel patch which he baited with a few Goldfish boilies and pellets and introduced a 20mm hook bait very carefully using a small 1 ounce lead and 6 inch hook link incorporating a size 8 fang twister. At 7.30 am it ripped of resulting in this cracking looking Mirror weighing in at 35lb 5oz !! good angling mate.

Fenland Catch Report

It’s been a cracking couple of weeks on Willow Lake with 4 forties to report including the new lake record at 42lb 80z

Mark McAndrew held the lake record for just 5 days when he caught what we believe was a new forty for the lake at 42lb 5oz. Mark also landed fish of 31lb 4oz, 21lb & 18lb.

Trevor Silk then banked a fish of 42lb 8oz to break Marks record by 3oz .

Other forties to be banked in the last couple of weeks include Graham Murfins capture of Space Hopper at 40lb 8oz & James Mcmanus put Frisby on the bank at 42lb 4oz.

Dave Hollis had a single fish of 36lb4oz from peg 16 on our house bait C.C.B Red Berry. Brian Shields also got amongst the thirties with a 33lb 11oz mirror from peg 13.

Richard Nash banked fish of 34lb7oz & 22lb from peg 10 on C.C.B. Peaches & Cream.

Mark Sykes fished peg 13 to take 3 fish of 31lb9oz, 22lb & 16lb also on Red Berry.

Darren Jackson another Red Berry fan banked 3 fish from peg 7 with the biggest at 22lb.

Wayne Dickinson & Graham Brooke came down from Leeds ,Wayne banked 4 high doubles & 33lb lake record common whilst Graham had 4 fish between 18lb & 29lb12oz.

Graham Lovegrove fished a short overnight session to bank a couple including a 31lb mirror & Tom Freeman had fish of 20lb & 24lb. Several other fish also caught but that’s the pick of the bunch.

Vermuyden Lake is still popular. Lee Hall had 3 doubles to 18lb. Lee Cooke 2 doubles to 16lb. John Whitworth 6 fish between 9lb & 18lb.

Gerald Hensby banked a 19lb mirror & Neil Dixon had one at 19lb8oz. Paul Titherton , Gary Young & Matt Young had a bumper session taking 15 fish in just one night between 8lb & 18lb.

This months C.C.B Competition winner is Alan Gilbey who banked 19 fish during his 48hour session using the Red Berry.

Alan banked fish to just over 20lb & his partner also had a result taking a further 10 fish to just under 20lb. Alan wins a Collection of C.C.B. Bait for his efforts.

On Abbey Lake the going is a little slow , Ray Best managed to bank a 20lb Mirror.

Paul Fitzjohn had a 24lb mirror. Kieth Foster banked a fish just under 20lb & Vernon from the infamous Watford Gang bagged a 21lb common.

Pingles Pool is very lightly fished at present ,Mark the Crimper managed to bank a nice common of 32lb 8oz & one other fish of 24lb has been banked to my knowledge.

Mark Hardy ( aka The Crimper ) Caught this fabulous looking common weighing 32-08 on a stalking session at Pingles Pool. This is the first thirty for a very long time, to get caught of the top at the pool and was captured on the ever faith-full dog biscuit. According to those present the fish put up a hell of a scrap, resulting in the Crimper getting extremely wet. Mark runs a hairdressers in Yaxley and never misses a trick to promote the business , hence the ascot ladies day floral display sat neatly on the top of his head !!!! i believe that in the trade they are known as fascinators ?? or is just the start of a hair transplant ??? nice one mate , very cutting edge !

Wow ! 29-3 left and 31-4 right, caught by Dan Gould on a quick overnight midweek session on Pingles pool . Both fish caught in the dark on CCB Red Berry hook baits, fished over a few freebies. Dan still managed to get to work for 9am complete with match sticks under the eye lids !! well worth it i reckon !
